# How does a personal cyber insurance claim work?

You file a personal cyber insurance claim once, from your Syba dashboard, by saying what happened, when, and the details. A person at Syba takes ownership, collects the evidence and documents, and files with the carrier through licensed broker placement where coverage responds. The outcome is confirmed in writing, and the final word belongs to your policy.

## What are the steps of a cyber insurance claim?

A Syba claim has four stages, and they are the same stages your dashboard shows: received, in triage, in progress, resolved. The timeline starts the moment you file and every entry stays.

- Received: three short steps from your dashboard (the kind of incident, when it happened, the details in your own words). Your claim gets a number and your concierge is notified.
- In triage: your concierge reviews the claim personally. The same 24/7 team that answers your calls owns it from the initial report to resolution, so you never re-explain.
- In progress: the concierge collects supporting documents, screenshots and statements. Where coverage responds, the claim is filed through licensed broker placement against capacity from A-rated carriers Tokio Marine HCC and Chubb.
- Resolved: the claim ends with a written record. If a claim is ever closed without action, the reason is posted to your timeline in writing.

## What should you have ready before you file?

The filing form asks for three things; everything else can follow. Documents can wait until your concierge picks the claim up, and you should never include passwords.

- The kind of incident: online fraud, identity theft, ransomware or extortion, a deepfake impersonation, or something else. Pick the closest match.
- When it happened. A date is enough, even an approximate one.
- What you noticed, in your own words: which accounts or devices are involved and anything you have already done.

## What if the attack is happening right now?

Claims are for afterwards. If money is moving or an account is being taken over, members go straight to the SOS report in the dashboard, or open the Syba app and press Call, where the 24/7 team answers directly.

Reporting to the authorities is a separate step the claim does not replace. In the United States that can mean the FTC at IdentityTheft.gov or the FBI IC3; for ransomware, CISA publishes a guide on what to do next.

## What does a claim cover, and what does it not?

Each coverage line responds under the terms of the issued policy. The table shows, for the main lines, one example that is covered and one that is not. Money a person chooses to send, even to a scammer, may not be covered.

Covered and not-covered examples by coverage line

Coverage line | Covered example | Not covered example

Identity theft and recovery | Assistance with covered losses after your identity is stolen and funds are taken. | An identity theft event that began before your coverage started.

Cyber ransomware and extortion | Ransomware locks a family computer and a ransom demand follows; the case is handled under the policy. | An extortion threat with no underlying cyber event behind it.

Online fraud and cyber crime | Funds are stolen from your account in an online fraud or cyber attack. | A purchase you authorized yourself and later disputed with the merchant.

Cyber breach events and data recovery | Recovering household data lost in a covered cyber breach event. | A hard drive that fails on its own, with no cyber event involved.

Cyber bullying and counseling | Counseling support after a child in the household is targeted by cyberbullying. | Disagreements between household members that involve no outside party.

## Who handles the claim, and where do insurance questions go?

Syba provides the membership, the monitoring and the response desk, and is not licensed as an insurance agency. In the United States, policies are placed through EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants, Syba’s licensed insurance broker. In Europe, insurance questions go to customer.service@syba.io.

## Questions people ask next

- ### Do I have to gather all the evidence myself?

No. Once the claim is picked up, your concierge collects the supporting documents, screenshots and statements, so you are not asked to assemble a file alone. Never send passwords.
- ### How long does a claim take?

Syba does not promise a timeline. How long a claim runs depends on the incident, the documents and the carrier. You follow every status and timeline entry from your dashboard.
- ### What statuses can a claim have?

Five: received, in triage, in progress, resolved and closed. A running timeline sits under each, and updates from your concierge appear as notes from a person, not anonymous system messages.
- ### Will the policy repay money I sent to a scammer?

Not necessarily. Money a person chooses to send, even to a scammer, may not be covered. The coverage page shows a covered and a not-covered example for every line, and the issued policy has the final word.
- ### What if my claim is closed without action?

The reason is posted to your timeline in writing, where you can read it. A claim closed from received or triage always carries a reason.
- ### Can I add documents after I file?

Yes. Screenshots and statements are added once your concierge picks the claim up. Documents can wait; the filing form needs just the incident, the date and your description.
