# Do families and wealthy households need cyber insurance?

Many do, because one household holds several people, devices, accounts and sometimes staff or a small company, and an attack on any of them lands on the same family. Cyber insurance covers identity theft, ransomware, online fraud and data recovery under the issued policy. Syba adds a 24/7 team and training for every age.

## Why is a family a different cyber risk from one person?

A family shares a home network, devices, cloud photos, bank access and passwords, and its members range from a child to a grandparent. Attackers use social engineering, the technique NIST describes as tricking people into giving up information or access, and the weakest account in the household is often the way in.

Wealth raises the stakes: it can make a household a named target rather than a random one, so the whole family’s digital footprint matters, not just the principal’s.

## What does family cyber insurance cover?

Every Syba plan covers identity theft, cyber ransomware and extortion, online fraud and cyber crime, cyber bullying and counseling, and cyber breach events with data recovery, each under the terms of the issued policy.

Higher plans add cyber security and privacy liability, third-party cyber liability, cryptocurrency cover, single-member LLC cover and household staff. The top plans add a personal cyber security engineer, device recognition and monitoring, an online reputation score and data broker deletion for family members.

- The household: from a single household on the entry plan to the complete family on the upper plans, at home and while traveling.
- The help: a 24/7 cyber team you can call about a strange email, text or caller.
- The training: tuned to every age, from a 7-year-old to a grandparent.

## Which plan fits which household?

Plans run from $250K to $5M of cover, from $49 a month up to $2,250 a month. The table shows who each step is for.

Household types and what to look for

Household | What to look for

One household, no staff, no company | The entry plans: the core coverage lines and the 24/7 team.

A family with children, a home office or a single-member LLC | The middle plans: single-member LLC cover, liability lines and training for every age.

A high-net-worth household with staff and crypto | The upper plans: household staff, cryptocurrency cover and the personal cyber security engineer.

A family and the office that serves it | The family office page: principals, staff, advisors and every residence under one platform.

Grandparents and older relatives | The seniors page: age-tailored training and a help desk with no question too small.

## What can a family do on its own today?

CISA recommends turning on multifactor authentication and recognizing and reporting phishing. Both cost nothing and shut the most common routes into an account. Insurance then covers what still gets through; it does not replace these habits.

- Turn on multifactor authentication on email and banking for every adult.
- Agree that any request to move money is confirmed by calling a number you already had.
- Keep an offline copy of family photos and documents, so a ransomware demand has less power.

## What is not covered?

Money a person chooses to send, even to a scammer, may not be covered. Each coverage line on the coverage page shows one covered and one not-covered example, and the issued policy always has the final word.

## Questions people ask next

- ### Is one policy enough for the whole family?

Yes, the household plans cover the family under one account, and the upper plans extend to household staff and single-member LLCs. Who is covered depends on the plan, so check the plan page for your region.
- ### Does high-net-worth cyber insurance cost more?

The upper plans cost more because they carry higher cover and more services. Plans run from $49 to $2,250 a month, and you can cancel any month with a prorated refund.
- ### Are children and grandparents covered?

The household plans are built for the whole family, from children to grandparents. Training is tuned to each age, because the same lesson does not work for a child, a teenager, a parent and a grandparent.
- ### Does it cover household staff and a family office?

The upper plans cover household staff and single-member LLCs. In Europe, the ladder covers a household and one company; a programme at family office scale is arranged with the team.
- ### What does the personal cyber security engineer do?

On the top plans, a named engineer looks after the household’s security and devices, alongside device recognition and monitoring. It is a service on the plan, not a separate purchase.
- ### Where do I start?

Start with the families page, or talk it through with the team beforehand. You can also run the free scan on your own domain, which is context for you and never sets your price.
